Enforcement project targets shoplifters in Quesnel

Quesnel

2024-08-16 12:18 PDT

RCMP partnered with Quesnel City Bylaws to target shoplifters.

As a result of concerns raised by local businesses about the ongoing thefts from their stores and the growing frustration, the Quesnel RCMP initiated a project targeting shop lifting. Over the course of the past 4 days, members of the RCMP Crime Reduction Unit partnered with Quesnel City Bylaws and worked to identify and apprehend people committing thefts from businesses around Quesnel. The project led to the recovery of $1, 728.89 worth of goods, the execution of 18 outstanding arrest warrants and the recovery of a stolen semi-truck worth approximately $25,000. 7 men and 1 woman were arrested and 3 youth were detained for investigation.

The RCMP’s partnership with Bylaws helped to make this project successful, says Sgt. Clay Kronebusch. These thefts have a significant financial cost to businesses and the consumers.

The results of the investigation will be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for assessment of appropriate charges.
