One arrested at University of British Columbia campus protest

University

2024-05-29 15:06 PDT

RCMP’s Critical Response Unit BC (CRU-BC) along with officers from Vancouver Police, Richmond RCMP, Metro Vancouver Transit Police and BC Highway Patrol attended University of British Columbia (UBC) campus in response to increased protest activity.

On May 29, additional police resources were deployed to the UBC campus in Vancouver, BC, to provide support to University RCMP. Protesters were in the intersection of University Boulevard and Wesbrook Mall impeding access to the main entrance into the University.

Demonstrators were given the opportunity to relocate off the roadway to avoid enforcement action. Despite attempts to facilitate communication with protestors, police action was required to clear the intersection. One person did not comply with police direction and was arrested.

The intersection has re-opened to the public, however the RCMP will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary action should there be any criminal activities that pose a threat to the safety of individuals and/or property.
