The Dawson Creek RCMP have successfully arrested and pressed charges against two Dawson Creek men involved in a daylight break and enter to an oil and gas well site in One Island Lake area.
On 3 March 2024 at approximately 10:00 am police were alerted to a break and enter and theft in progress at a rural oil and gas site in the One Island Lake area. Police were made aware that the site had a break in the day prior as well.
The Dawson Creek RCMP attended the site and located two men who immediately fled into the surroundings woods. Police followed the footprints in the deep snow and located 36 year old James Shearer hiding in a nearby shed. Police Dog Services attended the well site and a successful dog track lead to the apprehension of 45 year old Wayne Conley.
Further investigation revealed they had arrived in a stolen vehicle and caused thousands of dollars in damage to the infrastructure of the well site.
James Shearer was charged with break and enter, possession of stolen property, mischief over $5000, breach of a probation order and resist a Peace Officer. Wayne Conley was charged with break and enter, mischief over $5000, possession of stolen property and resisting a Peace Officer. Both James and Wayne have several outstanding warrants in Alberta for similar offences.
The Dawson Creek RCMP would like to thank the diligent operators who alerted police to the illegal activity as well as police dog services and police canine, Hamer. If you observe any suspicious or illegal activity please contact the Dawson Creek RCMP at (250) 784 3700.
