RCMP investigating after residential fire turns fatal

Police are investigating after a residential fire in North Cowichan turns fatal.

On October 28, 2024, at around 9:30 a.m., North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were called to the 1600 block of Maple Bay Rd to assist with a residential fire. The blaze was as such that it necessitated the mobilization for firefighters from North Cowichan, Maple Bay, Crofton and Chemainus.

Though the investigation is ongoing, police can confirm that at least one person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation remains in its infancy and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
