Kitimat RCMP weekly report March 7th - March 13th, 2024

Single vehicle collision:

While on routine patrol on March 7th, a Kitimat RCMP officer noticed a driver exiting a vehicle that had just slid off the roadway into a ditch on Kingfisher Ave. The driver did not sustain any injuries and the vehicle was not damaged (2024-773).

Highway single vehicle collision:

On March 7th, as Kitimat RCMP officers were responding to an unrelated call on Highway 37 at approximately 7pm, they came across a single vehicle collision near the Hirsch Creek bridge. It was found that a single vehicle had left the roadway. Luckily there was no injuries or damage to the vehicle. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind drivers that as we go through warning and cooling cycles through out the day, the road conditions can change very quickly (2024-777).

90-Day immediate roadside prohibition:

A report of a possible impaired driver was received by the Kitimat RCMP at approximately 3am on March 8th, led to a driving prohibition. The vehicle in question was located by the responding officers. The driver provided a sample of breath and it was found that alcohol was consumed before driving. It was also noted that the driver was unlicensed and the vehicles insurance had lapsed. The driver was served a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days (2024-778). 

Possible impaired driver:

A report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 37 was received by the Kitimat RCMP on March 9th. A good description of the vehicle was provided, allowing the responding Kitimat RCMP officer to locate the vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted, but it was discovered the driver had not intoxicated. A discussion was had with the driver about the importance of pulling over to rest if driving while tired (2024-805).

Bank card advise given:

A request for assistance regarding the misuse of a bank card was received on March 11th. It was reported that a bank card was provided to a friend to withdraw a sum of cash, however more money then was authorized was withdrawn. Advise was provided of how to reclaim the money. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind people not to allow access to your banking information to anyone (2024-817).

Break and enter:

A break, enter and theft was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on March 12th. It was reported that as unoccupied residence in the Kildala Neighbourhood, that was undergoing renovations, had been broken into and various tools have been stolen. Neighbourhood enquiries were conducted with negative results. The file remains under investigation (2024-821).
Lost, found,

Lost, found, returned phone:

A cellular phone was turned into the Kitimat RCMP on March 12th. A quick look at the locked screen allowed the investigating officer to identify the owner of the phone. The phone was reunited with the owner later in the day (2024-822).

Wellbeing check:

The Kitimat RCMP was requested to check the wellbeing of an elderly pedestrian was requested on March 13th. The pedestrian was walking though the Whitesail neighbourhood and something seemed off to the caller. The responding officers located the pedestrian and requested emergency health services to attend and assist. The pedestrian was not injured or ill and was picked up by a family member. (2024-831)
