Impaired driver caught in Cache Creek

On March 25th, Ashcroft RCMP were informed of a female driver in a white Chevy Silverado at the Chevron gas station in Cache Creek that was doing shots in the drivers seat of the vehicle. Police attended and conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle. The driver provided samples of breath roadside and was found to be driving while over the legal limit. Her 7 year-old son was in the back seat. The woman was prohibited from driving for ninety days and the vehicle was impounded for thirty days. This is the third ninety-day immediate roadside prohibition served on impaired drivers by Ashcroft RCMP this month. If you are planning on drinking, leave the car at home and think ahead to arrange a safe ride home.

Learner driver misses their turn

On March 25th, Ashcroft RCMP responded to a single-vehicle incident on Highway 1 at Highway 97C in the Boston Flats area, where a learner driver had missed their turning. The driver had tried to turn too late at too high a speed and the vehicle ended up perched precariously on an embankment. Ashcroft Fire Services attended scene to shore-up the vehicle, making extraction of both occupants possible. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident, which could have ended very differently.

Thought of the day

We have all noticed the decreased snow pack this winter. This will more than likely lead to two things - drought conditions and the water restrictions that go along with those conditions, and the increased risk of wildfires due to the dry brush and warmer weather.

By planning ahead, we can offset the potential risks and ensure we are ready should we experience adverse conditions this summer.

Easy steps which we can all take include:

Download the Voyent Alert app on your smart device – the municipalities use this to alert residents and it is the quickest way to receive important information
Pay attention to online services, such as : Wildfire Service and Drive BC (be informed)
Be aware of the evacuation alerts or orders in place that affect you
Have a plan to follow should you need to relocate (do you have friends or family in another community that could take you in?)
Adhere to water restrictions put in place by the municipality (they are there to ensure life and property are preserved)
Have an emergency kit ready in your house or car.
Ensure your important documents (passports, ID, birth or marriage certificates, etc.) are in one place and travel with you if you need to relocate
Support friends and family that need help, including our elders, children, or those who may need extra time to relocate due to disabilities
Adhere to all fire bans put into place
Be aware of your responsibilities if you choose to build a fire outside of a campfire ban or restriction

Above all, make sure that your loved ones are aware of the above proactive actions they can take and the resources that are available to them should an evacuation or restrictions be put in place.
