The city of Fort St John received numerous reports of shots fired over the weekend.

On May 11, 2025 at about 12:30am, the Fort St John RCMP received a report of a home invasion with a firearm in the area of 96th Street and 97th Avenue of Fort St John. Through investigation, a suspect was identified.

Just over an hour later, RCMP received reports of shots fired in the area of 92nd Street and 113th Avenue. See applicable media release.

That same day at 6:05pm, the Fort St John RCMP received a report of shots fired at a residence on the 269 Rd in the area of 240 Rd.

In all three incidents, police attended, secured the scenes to complete exhaustive neighbourhood enquiries, obtained statements and conducted area searches.

Search warrants were obtained for the 269 Rd residence and additional evidence was located that appeared to link it to the first shooting.

On May 12, 2025, Kelly Shular, property rep for the 269 Rd address, was arrested for the first shooting and held in police custody for court.

Several charges have been approved against Shular including: Break and Enter, Use of a Firearm in Commission of an Offence, Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order, Careless Use of Firearm and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

That was a busy day with multiple reports of shots fired and the detachment response was fantastic with public safety being paramount, said Sergeant Ian Rissanen, Plain Clothes Unit Commander for the Fort St John RCMP. All of the shooting events of the weekend are believed to be related to the Fort St John drug trade. All members of the Fort St. John RCMP, including our specialized investigative units, continue to strive to ensure public safety by targeting the illicit drug trade.

Shular has been remanded into custody by a judge until his next court appearance on June 4, 2025.

The Fort St John RCMP continue to investigate the events of the weekend and are asking anyone who has information in these matters to contact the Fort St John RCMP at 250-787-8100.
