Police shut down Thetis Lake Regional Park in response to call, now open

On July 10, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m. West Shore RCMP officers responded to a call of an individual experiencing a mental health crisis at Thetis Lake Regional Park.

Officers learned the individual had gone into the park and was in possession of several firearms. Officers quickly attended, closed down the park and set up containment to ensure public safety.

The individual was located at approximately 10:30 p.m. by police. They were safely apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to the hospital for further care. Numerous firearms were located and seized by police. No one sustained any injuries in this incident.

West Shore RCMP would like to thank partnering agencies for their quick response and assistance in this matter including, View Royal Fire, Victoria and Saanich Police Departments and West Shore RCMP Police Dog Services.
