At 8:55 pm on February 6th, the Kitimat RCMP responded to a possible break and enter at a residence in the Whitesail neighbourhood. It was reported that a door at the residence appeared to have been forced open and some footprints were noticed in the snow. No items were reported to be missing. The investigating officer conducted neighbourhood enquires and canvased for any CCTV footage in the area, this investigation is still on going. (2025-453)
British Columbia Highway patrol officers spent several hours patrolling Highway 37 between Kitimat and Terrace on February 6th. Several violation tickets were issued for Motor Vehicle Act offences, including 6 for speeding, 1 for failing to slow down and move over and 1 for driving without a driver’s license. One driver was found to have a warrant for their arrest. Verbal warnings were also issued for broken windshields, burnt out lights, illegal light bars and mud / snow covering license plates and lights.
A report of a near miss collision was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on February 7th. It was reported that at 11:10 am, a vehicle was backing out of a parking spot unsafely and almost hit another vehicle at a business located on the 900 block of Wakashan Ave. A description if the offending vehicle was provided and the investigating officer was able to locate it. Based on the complaint information and statements from other witnesses, the driver was issued a violation ticket for reversing when unsafe, section 193 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. (2025-463)
On February 8th, at 10:08 am, the Kitimat RCMP were advised of a vehicle that was parked in the middle of Highway 37 just north of the Kitimat River Bridge that had the air bags deployed. The responding officer attended and found the driver was being seen by Emergency Health Services. It was reported that the driver had swerved to miss an animal on the roadway, however still clipped it, causing extensive damage to the passenger front of the vehicle. The driver was transported to a local hospital to be checked over, but no serious injuries were reported. The wildlife was not located on scene. (2025-477)
The Kitimat RCMP received a call of a disturbance at a business located on the 100 block of Nechako Centre at 11:38 pm on February 9th. It was found that two groups of males had been causing a disturbance by fighting. One group of four males were arrested for causing the disturbance by being drunk in public, the other group of four had left before the responding officers arrived. The four that were arrested were taken back to the Kitimat RCMP detachment and lodged into cells until they were sober and released. All four were issued violation tickets for being intoxicated a public place under the British Columbia Liquor Control and Licensing Act. Efforts to identify and locate the other four males were successful. (2025-492)
A report of a hit and run was received by the Kitimat RCMP on February 11th at 4:28 pm. It was reported that a vehicle on the 200 block of City Centre had been going the wrong way against traffic and struck another vehicle, then left the scene. A description the offending vehicle was provided, including the license plat number. The investigating officer was able to locate the vehicle and owner the following day. A violation ticket for fail to remain at the scene of an accident was issued. (2025-512)
On February 12th, a Kitimat resident attended the Kitimat RCMP detachment to report that they were the victim of a fraud. It was reported that they had received a phone call from a male that stated that the victim had an error on one of their online accounts. The only way to fix this error was to pay an amount of money in Bitcoin. Unfortunately, the victim completed the transaction and did not think it was strange until providing the information to the caller. The victim was reminded that no reputable business will never request Bitcoin or gift cards. That’s a huge red flag for a possible fraudulent call. (2025-518)
