2024-06-11 15:58 PDT

File # 2024-542

Barriere RCMP is investigating a fatal incident involving an ATV that claimed the life of a 15-year-old youth.

On June 9, 2024, at 4:30 p.m., frontline officers arrived at the scene near the 2-kilometre mark of the Darlington Creek Forest Service Road.

Paramedics and by-standers were providing medical attention.

It was learnt that an ATV driven by a 15-year-old youth, carrying a passenger, had lost control of the vehicle, resulting in it overturning.

The youth driver unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The passenger suffered minor injuries.

Initial evidence gathered at the scene suggests the youth was not wearing a seat-belt.

RCMP and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate the incident.

This tragic event has had a significant impact on all communities surrounding Barriere, said Cpl. Kyle Camalush, Barriere RCMP Detachment. The Barriere RCMP wish to send our condolences to the families and friends of those involved during this difficult time.
