The Merritt RCMP are investigating a shooting in the 1800 block of Orme Street and are seeking the public's assistance for any information or video in the area.

On January 7, 2025, shortly after 9:40am Merritt Front Line officers were called to the 1800 block of Orme Street for a shooting. A suspect, wearing all black, exited a residence and approached the victim, who was standing at the corner of Orme Street and Quilchena Avenue. The suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the leg. The suspect fled South on Orme Street and turned East down the alley between Coutlee and Quilchena Avenue. The victim suffered non life threatening injuries and was transported to the Nicola Valley Hospital by Emergency Health Services. The suspect and victim were known to each other and the incident is believed to be targeted. The suspect has not yet been apprehended.

MR5102 parked outside of the Merritt RCMP Detachment.

With assistance from the South East District Emergency Response Team, the residence where the suspect exited was cleared and is being held for a search warrant. Police are requesting the public avoid the area until officers have cleared.

If you have any information or video from a residence or business in the area that may have captured the shooting or the suspect fleeing, please contact the Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
