Welcome to the Mission RCMP Community Connection for the week of July 23 to 30, 2023.
This week was busy:
While conducting patrols in the Deroche area on July 23, an officer located a pickup travelling westbound. He quickly recalled that the Agassiz RCMP had sent a message out earlier of a possible impaired driver in the same vehicle. The officer stopped the vehicle and made a breath demand to the driver which resulted in a fail. The driver was served a 90 day immediate driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
On July 24, a young babysitter had a scary encounter when a man tried to break into the home where she was caring for a child on Holiday Ave. Fortunately, the home had video surveillance which the home owner could view remotely and immediately reported it to police. The young babysitter took quick action to ensure the safety of herself and the child she was responsible for. A full investigation is underway which included a police dog track, forensic identification services and video surveillance review but the suspect has not yet been identified. This incident is a reminder to talk to your kids about what to do if such an emergency occurs. If anyone has information or video surveillance which may be related, please contact the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
On July 24, a man attended the Winners and stole over $3000 worth of merchandise before fleeing on a bicycle. What he didn’t realize is that not only are the Mission RCMP routinely in the area of the Junction, so are other policing agencies. A member of the CP Rail police overheard the call for service and observed the man fleeing north across the railroad tracks and updated the Mission officers. The man was quickly located and after a short foot pursuit he was intercepted by Mission RCMP and arrested for theft. The man was released on conditions not to attend the Winners and will have a court date in the future.
On July 26, a local man learned the hard way that construction sites generally have very good video surveillance systems. At about 2:30am the Mission RCMP received a report from a security company of two people who had broken into a building under construction on Haig St. Officers immediately attended and located and arrested a man and a woman. The man was found to not only be breaching conditions of his existing probation but was also found to have numerous weapons and a large amount of illicit drugs on him. He was held in cells for a court appearance for several new charges.
Emergency: 911
Non-emergency: 604-826-7161.
