Police investigating tow truck theft

Kamloops City

2023-11-02 15:56 PDT

File # 2023-38963

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is looking for information after a suspicious black BMW led to a tow truck being stolen earlier this week.

On Oct. 30, 2023, around 5:25 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to Hwy 5 west of Kamloops, where a tow truck had been assisting two people with a flat tire on a vehicle that appeared suspicious.

As police arrived on scene and were talking with the tow truck driver outside of the vehicle, the two people from the BMW stole the tow truck and fled toward Merritt, with the BMW still attached, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson.

The BMW was soon after recovered near Salmon Arm, and the tow truck near Tappen, unoccupied.

Anyone with dash camera footage and information related to the tow truck after it was taken, or to the BMW leading up to the theft of the truck, is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-38963.
