Ashcroft RCMP are unveiling the results of the ‘Name the PC’ competition and thanking those who entered.
On November 17th, 2023, Ashcroft RCMP launched the first ever RCMP ‘Name the PC’ competition, asking local area youth to suggest names for the new Ford pickup truck that, until the competition, was known only as ‘AS5101’. Those who entered had until December 8th, 2023, to suggest names that began with the letter ‘A’ for the new marked police vehicle.
The competition was run in partnership with the South Cariboo Elizabeth Fry Society and Ashcroft RCMP would like to extend thanks to everyone that assisted, in particular, their Executive Director, Trish Schatchel.
The winning entry, ‘Aurora’, was suggested by 12 year-old Michaela Aie. As a part of her entry, Michaela noted that she chose the name because auroras are often seen in Ashcroft and, when she read about auroras showing bright bands of light, it made her think of the police lights on RCMP vehicles. She also read that the rarest colour for an aurora is red (much like the red serge uniform worn by RCMP officers).
Two runners-up are also being recognized for their name suggestions:
Liam Olsen (12 years-old) – ‘Ablaze’
Arden Rowe (11 years-old) – ‘Apprehender’
Ashcroft RCMP would like to thank everyone who entered the competition. Said Constable Richard Wright, Ashcroft RCMP. It was a pleasure to see the creativity and thought put into the names from all of the entrants.
