Salmon Arm RCMP receives first electric vehicle

Salmon Arm

2025-07-09 12:57 PDT

Salmon Arm RCMP has added its first electric vehicle (EV) to its fleet as part of an RCMP pilot project evaluating zero-emission vehicles for policing across Canada.

The 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning arrived earlier this month at the Salmon Arm Detachment, fully equipped and ready for frontline policing duties.

Frontline officers in Salmon Arm will be driving the new EV to test its performance in varied operational situations. The public can expect to see the truck patrolling neighbourhoods throughout Salmon Arm and the surrounding areas.

This is an exciting trial for our Detachment, says S/Sgt. Simon Scott, Salmon Arm Detachment Commander. "Testing an electric vehicle in day-to-day policing helps us understand how these new technologies can support policing services while reducing our environmental footprint.
