Salmon Arm RCMP January 22 to February 4, 2025, Calls for service: 227

January 22

Lakeshore Dr NE: At 12am Salmon Arm RCMP observed a blue Mazda MPV travelling in the oncoming lane. The vehicle was stopped and the 26-year-old male driver denied consuming any alcohol that night. Police conducted a mandatory approved screening device demand and the man blew one fail reading, and declined his right to second test. The man’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days, and he was prohibited from driving for 90 days. The matter was referred to RoadSafetyBC. The man was able to walk himself home.

January 28

Salmon River Rd: At 7pm Salmon Arm RCMP were on patrol and observed a grey Dodge Caliber having difficulty maintaining its lane and began travelling 108km/h in a posted 80km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted where the 56-year-old female driver stated she was on her way to work. The officer could smell alcohol and observed an open beer can that was half full in the center console. An approved screening device demand was conducted and the woman blew two fail readings. The woman later admitted to consuming several beers, and a shot of fireball on her lunch break before heading back to work. The woman’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days, and she was prohibited from driving for 90 days. The matter was referred to RoadSafetyBC.

January 29

30th St NE: At 1:15am Salmon Arm RCMP observed a white Dodge 1500 pickup truck doing donuts in the intersection of 30th St NE and Hwy 1. Police conducted a traffic stop and the 19-year-old male driver was observed to have glossy eyes, slurred speech, alcohol on his breath, and open liquor in the vehicle. An approved screening device demand was conducted and the man blew one fail reading, and declined his right to second test. The man’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days, and he was prohibited from driving for 90 days. The matter was referred to RoadSafetyBC. The man was served a violation ticket for driving without due care. The man was also subsequently arrested for being intoxicated in public and too intoxicated to care for himself, and was lodged in cells overnight to sober up.

February 2

10 St SW: At 9:45am Salmon Arm RCMP were on patrol and observed a black Lincoln MKX fail to stop for a stop sign on Lakeshore Dr W and 10 St SW. A traffic stop was initiated with the 61-year-old male driver, who claimed he was heading home after attending a church service. Despite it being Sunday, the officer suspected it was little early for church service to already be over. The driver had slightly slurred speech, and struggled to locate his insurance papers, raising the officer’s suspicions that alcohol was involved. An approved screening device demand was conducted and the man blew one fail reading, and declined his right to second test. The man’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days, and he was prohibited from driving for 90 days. The matter was referred to RoadSafetyBC.
