Semi-truck impounded during impaired investigation

Kamloops City

2023-11-24 07:52 PST

File # 2023-41536/2023-41544

A report of a semi-truck swerving on the highway, failing to signal, and almost hitting a meridian, led to its driver losing his license for 90 days.

On Nov. 22, 2023, just before 6 p.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Municipal Traffic Unit located the truck just off of Hwy 5 at Copperhead and Versatile Drives. As part of the investigation, police demanded the driver provide a sample of his breath, but he failed to provide an adequate one – a deemed refusal.

Refusal of the breath demand carries the same penalty as blowing a fail, which would indicate a blood alcohol content exceeding .08, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson.

The driver was provided a 90-day driving prohibition and the semi-truck was impounded for 30 days under the Motor Vehicle Act.
