File # 2023-141520
Surrey RCMP is currently on scene investigating a fatal pedestrian motor vehicle collision that occurred on 2023-08-22 in the Whalley area of Surrey.
On August 22, 2023, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian motor vehicle collision in the west bound lanes of Highway 17. A Ford pickup was west bound on Highway 17, when a pedestrian attempted to cross the highway, north bound, between intersections. The vehicle struck the pedestrian causing catastrophic injury.
A male, believed to be in his 30’s, was transported to a local area hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the pickup remained on scene and is cooperating with police. At this time alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision, and the investigation into the incident is still in the very early stages.
Anyone with more information, including dash cam footage of the incident, is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
