Trail resident loses $7,000 in telephone scam

On Friday, February 28, at 11:45 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report that a Warfield man lost $7,000 after falling prey to a telephone fraud, in Warfield, BC.
The man was contacted on his phone by a person claiming to be an officer. The caller said the man’s son was in jail and he needed to pay $7000 to have his son freed on bail. The man sent $6000 via electronic money transfer and $1000 in gift card funds to the caller.

The man realized later that he was the victim of a fraud and contacted police. The money is not recoverable.

This is a very common theme used to defraud people over the phone. The police do not call people and collect bail money electronically over the phone and through electronic money transfers. If you receive a call like this, please hang up and contact your local RCMP detachment directly to report the incident to an officer, says Sgt. Wicentowich.

Man asks for a smoke, ends up with a drag

On Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 1:40 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was on patrol in a marked police vehicle when he observed a 52-year-old Warfield man exit a vehicle after parking in a no parking zone in the 700 block of Victoria Street, in Trail, BC.

The officer was soon approached by the man who asked the officer for a cigarette.

The officer observed that the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle may be impaired by alcohol. A demand was read to the man who provided a breath sample which resulted in a warn.

The 52-year-old Warfield man was issued a 7-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. His vehicle was impounded.

Vehicle decorated for wedding stolen and recovered

On March 2, 2025, at 9:27 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report that a vehicle with its key was stolen from the 500 block of Rossland Avenue, in Trail, BC.

To make matters worse, the vehicle had been decorated for the bride to be used during the wedding.
On March 3, 2025, around 8:15 a.m. a local citizen located the vehicle near the junction of Highway 3B and 22 near Rossland, BC. The citizen contacted the police and maintained surveillance while providing updates until officers arrived.

Officers arrested a 30-year-old Trail man at the scene and recovered the vehicle.
The matter remains under investigation.
