File # 2024-8436
On May 6 at approximately 6:40 a.m., West Shore RCMP received several calls regarding a Black Chevrolet Monte Carlo driving erratically in Metchosin and crashing into a power pole located near the 4200 block of Metchosin Rd. One caller reported the driver appeared to be falling asleep at the wheel while driving.
Frontline officers attended the scene along with B.C. Emergency Health Services and Metchosin Fire Department. Police determined there were two occupants in the Monte Carlo and the driver, identified as an 18-year-old male was displaying signs of drug impairment.

Police conducted an impaired driving investigation which included an examination of the driver by a Drug Recognition Expert who determined the driver was exhibiting symptoms of being impaired by drugs. The driver was cooperative with the police investigation and provided a sample of his urine to be analyzed. The vehicle was towed and impounded and the driver issued a 24-hour prohibition from driving. Drug impaired driving charges are expected to be forthcoming pending results from the urine analysis.
Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and are lucky that they were not seriously injured. We want to thank the multiple callers who reported this to police right away, said Cpl. Nancy Saggar West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.
