Nine out of eleven dump trucks inspected were found to be overweight, eight of which were placed out of service, as Burnaby RCMP and their partners undertake Commercial Vehicle Enforcement operation.
Numerous complaints about overweight dump trucks in the area of Lougheed Hwy and Willingdon Avenue were received by several agencies over the past six months.
On Monday, June 16, 2025, Burnaby RCMP, BC Highway Patrol, Vancouver Police CVU, CVSE and WorkSafeBC completed a large-scale enforcement operation in the area.
The results of this enforcement operation:
WorkSafeBC also inspected 9 out of the 11 truck and issued a stop work order on 6 of them.
Each dump truck found to be overweight was escorted back to their excavation site and ordered off the road until in compliance with weight regulations.
These trucks were destined for the Port of Vancouver as well as locations east throughout the Lower Mainland on Hwy 1.
In addition to overweight infractions, some trucks had insecure loads, with rocks that could easily escape the back of the truck while travelling on our roadways, as seen below.
One inspection revealed a tire with an 8-inch gash.
This is an excellent example of how important collaboration is in regards to Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and the important roll the LMDCVE group has in improving Commercial Vehicle Safety and making the roads safer for everyone, said Cst. Kevin Connolly, Burnaby RCMP’s designated Commercial Vehicle Inspector. It is through work such as this that we can make the roadways safer and ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods through the Lower Mainland.
