As Canada marks National Volunteer Week from April 27 to May 3, Richmond RCMP is proud to recognize the tremendous contributions of its community volunteers.

This year’s theme, Volunteers Make Waves, references the ripple effect volunteers create in their community through dedication, compassion, and civic pride.

In 2024, 86 Richmond RCMP volunteers contributed 5,256 hours of service to the community. Their efforts represent over 16,500 community contacts across 782 shifts, where they supported initiatives aimed at reducing crime and enhancing safety across the community.

"Every opportunity to spend time with our volunteers is something I genuinely value," says Chief Superintendent Dave Chauhan, Officer In Charge of the Richmond RCMP. "Whether it's Speed Watch, school safety campaigns, or community festivals, I am continually inspired by the heart and commitment our volunteers bring. I proudly salute them for the positive impact they make every day."

The wide range of initiatives volunteers participate in include:

Our volunteers are the backbone of many of our crime prevention initiatives in Richmond, says Shyreen Sharma, Supervisor of the Richmond Community Policing Offices. Whether it be through community engagement, road safety programs, or just providing a presence in the city, they support our RCMP officers, municipal employees, and one another simply by showing up and caring. They help keep our city safe and contribute to the sense of belonging that makes Richmond such a special place to live and work.

Richmond RCMP hosts an annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony to recognize outstanding volunteer contributions, and will host an Appreciation Night for all volunteers during Volunteer Week to celebrate their collective achievements.
