The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Nanaimo where one man suffered injuries while in custody.
On December 8, 2023, Nanaimo RCMP arrested a man wanted on outstanding warrants without incident and transported him to cells where he was to be held until December 13. On December 10, the man reportedly had a medical episode and suffered an injury.
Emergency Health Services were called and the man was transported to hospital.
The IIO BC is investigating police actions in the incident.
