The Merritt RCMP want to remind the public that as of October 1st, there is a requirement to have winter tires on your vehicle when driving on the Coquihalla Highway and Highway 97C. Failing to follow the rules could leave you stuck in the ditch.
Winter tires or chains are required on most routes in British Columbia from October 1st to April 30th. For select highways not located through mountain passes and/or high snowfall areas, tire and chain requirements end March 31. These routes are marked with regulatory signs posted on highways throughout the province.
Failing to put the proper tires on your vehicles could result in $121 fine and a tow.
Check out the designated winter and chain routes throughout the province.
