Inaugural “Adventures with First Responders Day” a huge success!

Prince George

2025-06-02 08:08 PDT

On May 3, 2025, First Responders from Prince George RCMP, Prince George Fire Rescue Services and B.C. Emergency Health Services joined forces with School District 57 to give several students a sneak-peak into what it is like to work as a first responder.

The aim of this program is to expose students to three of the First Responder organizations that operate in Prince George, to show them what the work is like and what options are open to them post-graduation, states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

Students rotated through three stations throughout the day, learning about some of the more dynamic aspects of First Responder careers. Some examples of what the students experienced were: donning fire rescue gear and using high-pressure hoses; learning how to stop a traumatic bleed and administer an airway; and arrest and handcuff procedures.

We are always looking for ways that we can support our students in making career decisions and exploring options that are outside of the standard curriculum. We look forward to partnering with these organizations to provide this program again in the future, says Steven Foster, School District 57 Career Program Coordinator.

A special thanks goes out to Yellowhead Rotary Club of Prince George for sponsoring this event! Without their assistance and continued encouragement, this event would not have come together as it did.

Prince George Rotary Club recognizes the value community interaction plays in youth making career choices after high school and we are proud to be able to support initiatives such as this one, which allow students to explore unique and important future job opportunities in a fun and interactive environment, comments Ron Davis, Rotary District 5040 Youth Protection Officer.
