The man dropped the items and fled. The officer quickly caught up to the fleeing man and took him into custody after a brief struggle. The officer allegedly seized a knife from the man during a search incident to his arrest.

Self-driving motorhome?

File # 2024-4719

On Monday, October 14, 2024, at 8:56 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a motorhome driving erratically on Highway 3B, in Trail, BC. The officer patrolled and located the motorhome. It was detained roadside.

When the officer approached the still running motorhome, he discovered a 60-year-old Trail man seated in the front passenger seat. The man denied that he was driving the motorhome and declared it was another person that was sleeping in the back of the motorhome.

The officer contacted and quickly confirmed with a witness that the man in the passenger seat was in fact the driver, and not the sleeping person.

The officer made observations that lead him to believe the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was allegedly impaired by alcohol. A demand was read to the man who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a warn.

The 60-year-old Trail man was issued a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. His vehicle was impounded for up to 7 days.

We hope he work his friend up before the motorhome was impounded, says Sgt. Wicentowich.
