Trail RCMP respond to report of a gun inside a vehicle at high school

Trail and Greater District

File # 2025-2376

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 1:31 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a report of an alleged firearm seen inside a vehicle parked in the parking lot of the JL Crowe High School located at 1300 Frances Moran Road, in Trail, BC.

Officers located the vehicle and seized a black air rifle. Officers spoke a 17-year-old Fruitvale youth about the air rifle who reported that he had forgotten that it was inside the truck. The youth fully understood the perception of the incident and apologized.

The matter remains under investigation at this time; however, no criminal charges are to be expected.

We suspect that the air rifle may have ended up at an unsanctioned graduation event reportedly taking place tonight in the Pend O’Reille area. Officers will be monitoring this planned event and conducted patrols along the road leading to the alleged location, says Sgt. Wicentowich.
