Terrace weekly review March 15 to March 21, 2025

The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 192 calls between March 15 and 21, 2025. Below are a few highlights of those calls:

Fire on Mountainview deemed not suspicious

On March 15, around 4:00 am, Terrace RCMP were informed of a structure fire on Mountainview Ave in Thornhill. Upon arrival, one recreational vehicle and one garage structure were engulfed in flames. The lone occupant of the RV exited safely. Thornhill and Terrace fire crews put out the fire. RCMP do not suspect any criminality. (2025-1852)

Man and woman parked, leads to impaired investigation

After midnight on March 18, RCMP were conducting regular patrols and observed a white BMW idling in the Ferry Island parking lot. A woman was in the driver’s seat with a man in the passenger seat. The officer conducted a traffic stop to confirm the identity of the driver. The vehicle was found to have a number of loose liquor cans and an open bottle of liquor. The officer conducted an impaired investigation with the woman who refused multiple times to provide a sample of her breath. As a result, the woman was issued a driving prohibition, a 30-day vehicle impound and her licence was seized. Courtesy transportation was provided to the woman while the man chose to leave the scene on foot. (2025-1915)

Impaired driver, dirt bike seized

On the evening of March 18, Terrace RCMP received a report of a suspected impaired driver of a dirt bike passing vehicles on Highway 16, near the Northern Motor Inn. Police located the driver in upper Thornhill and detained him for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The driver provided a breath sample which resulted in a fail. The driver was issued an immediate roadside driving prohibition, vehicle impound, and multiple violation tickets. During the investigation, the man became violent with police and was taken to cells until he could be released sober. (2025-1935)

Speeding driver gets arrested on a warrant

On the evening of March 20, BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) officer observed a Ford Escape travelling southbound on Highway 113. The Ford was travelling at a speed of 116 km/hr in a marked 80 km/hr zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver. He was determined to have a warrant out of Vancouver and was also suspended from driving. The man was arrested for the offences and issued a notice of vehicle impound, a court date for driving while suspended, a notice and order, and violation tickets for speeding and no insurance. Excessive speed and impaired driving

On March 20, Terrace RCMP were making routine patrols on Highway 37 and conducted a traffic stop with a white SUV that was travelling 135 km/hr in a marked 70 km/hr zone. The officer also obtained two breath samples from the driver to confirm sobriety, with both samples failing. The man was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and was issued an immediate roadside prohibition, a vehicle impound and a violation ticket for excessive speed. The officer provided courtesy transportation following the incident. (2025-2017)

Structure fire on Sleeping Beauty Lane under investigation

On the morning of March 21, Terrace RCMP assisted Terrace Fire with a structure fire on Sleeping Beauty Lane. Two occupants safely exited from the building. At this time, the investigation is ongoing. (2025-2024)
