Fatal collision caused highway closure

 Just after 2:00am on July 19, 2023, members of the Mission RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck on Lougheed Highway near Nelson Street in Mission. The pedestrian died on scene. The highway was shut down between Nelson Street and Silverdale Avenue for several hours while the Mission RCMP Traffic Services along with the RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and BC Coroner conducted their investigation. There were three vehicles involved and all drivers remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation. There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision. Identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of their next of kin. The highway has since been re-opened. Anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dash-camera footage is encouraged to call the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
