On January 23, 2025 at approximately 10:30 am, the Sunshine Coast RCMP were notified of a missing person after a boat was found idling in the water near the Egmont channel with no one on board.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre received the report and West Coast Marine units assisted with the investigation. A short time later, a 68 year old local man was located in the water deceased. There was nothing suspicious noted and the BC coroners service has taken conduct of the file. The man's family was notified and his name will not be released by police.
