2024-05-31 20:41 PDT
File # 2024-595
IHIT have deployed to Ridge Meadows after a daylight shooting.
On May 31, 2024, at approximately 5:12 p.m., the Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 223 Street and Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge. First responders attended and located a man suffering life-threatening injuries. Despite the best efforts of BC Emergency Health Services and front-line officers, the man succumbed to his injuries on scene. Witnesses reported seeing a suspect male, fleeing the scene. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of the investigation and continue to work closely in partnership with the Ridge Meadows RCMP, the RCMP Forensic Identification Service and the BC Coroners Service.
Initial evidence suggests this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing risk to the public. IHIT investigators have identified the victim, but are not releasing his name at this time, to allow for proper notification to the family.
Investigators will remain in the area canvassing for witnesses and collecting security camera footage, says Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. We are asking any witnesses or anyone with dash-camera footage from the area, to contact IHIT immediately.
