Maple Ridge, B.C. – Ridge Meadows RCMP hosted an awards night to recognize the contributions of police officers, volunteers and municipal employees in 2023. Two awards were also presented to honour Constable Rick O’Brien.
On April 6, 2024, Ridge Meadows RCMP invited officers, staff and community partners to recognize the hard work and bravery of officers serving Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows and the Katzie First Nation. In attendance were RCMP members from the BC RCMP and Ridge Meadows RCMP, elected officials from Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge Fire Department and Maple Ridge Bylaw, amongst others.

A total of 18 awards were presented to individuals and units during the evening, including:
The Rick O’Brien Youth Engagement Award – Unit Presented to the Ridge Family Youth and Resources Support Team (FYRST), comprising of Constable Tisha Parsons, Samantha French, and Danielle Bosma, for playing a crucial role in building resilience among young people and fostering positive relationships with their peers, school, and family.

Perseverance in an Investigation – IndividualPresented to Constable Sukhpreet Haer and Constable Ben Stephens for spotting and arresting a well-known prolific offender with outstanding warrants and driving while prohibited during patrols in downtown Maple Ridge. The offender injured a civilian while attempting to evade police but Constables Haer and Stephens worked to ensure the safety of the civilian while taking the suspect into custody.
Volunteer of the Year Presented to John Petty for passionately serving the Ridge Meadows community for over 30 years, commitment to the Speed Watch program and willingness to take on special Crime Prevention Unit projects or tasks.
Bravery (Off-Duty) – IndividualPresented to Constable Shaveta Gahunia for her swift and decisive actions as an off-duty police officer during a perilous fire, fearlessly entered a burning building, risking her safety to rescue those left inside.
