Police encourage kids to be seen this Halloween

If you’re going out as the Invisible Man/Woman this Halloween, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment suggests decorating your costume with some reflective tape.

As Thursday Oct. 31, 2024, sneaks closer towards us, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Community Policing Unit is encouraging trick-or-treaters to make sure they can be seen this Halloween.

Glow sticks, light coloured and fluorescent costumes, reflective tape, flashlights, reflectors, and zipper pulls are all some fun and easy ways to increase your visibility to help keep the night spooktacular and safe, said Corporal Dana Napier of the Community Policing Unit.

Along with being seen, it’s also important to make sure trick-or-treaters can see properly too, added Cpl. Napier.

Masks can make it hard to see, said Cpl. Napier. If your costume includes one, it’s a good idea to pull it up onto your head as you move from house to house, then pull it down over your face at the door when you’re collecting treats.

Drivers and residents are also encouraged to slow down and pay extra attention while moving through communities.

Below are some tips to help keep the spooky safe this Halloween.
