Chief Superintendent Bruce Singer, a third-generation RCMP officer, and his lifelong dedication to public service began with his first Queen’s Commission in the Canadian Armed Forces, where he served from 1988 to 1991. Following his passion for law enforcement, he joined the British Columbia Sheriff’s Department and, in 2000, transitioned to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), where he continued to serve Canadians with distinction.

With extensive experience in frontline and specialized policing, Chief Superintendent Singer has tackled complex policing challenges across municipal, provincial, and federal investigations. He has led Major and Serious Crimes units, the Truth Verification Section (polygraph), and the "E" Division Interview Team, which he saw extensive travel throughout Vancouver Island supporting the investigative excellence.

I’m incredibly honoured to take on this new role as District Commander. Having worked with dedicated island investigators in the past, I have seen firsthand their unwavering commitment to their communities and to public safety. I am excited to get the opportunity to work on the island and look forward to continuing the strong tradition of collaboration and operational excellence that defines the district, said C/Supt. Singer.

In 2016, Chief Superintendent Singer was commissioned as an Inspector, assuming the role of Investigative Support Services Officer in Newfoundland and Labrador. He managed a diverse portfolio, including RCMP Divisional Major Crime, Forensic Identification, Police Service Dogs, the National Sex Offender Registry, and the Violent Crime Linkage Analysis System (ViCLAS). Additionally, he served as the Emergency Response Team Senior Critical Incident Commander demonstrating exceptional crisis management expertise.

Returning to British Columbia, he took on senior leadership roles, including Officer in Charge of Occupational Health Services, where he championed member wellness and led initiatives like the Proactive Employee Health Support Unit and the Proactive Support Response Team. His innovative approach significantly enhanced the RCMP’s capacity to support the physical and mental health of its members.

Reflecting on his leadership philosophy, Chief Superintendent Singer states:

"Modern leadership is about empowerment, collaboration, and trust. By embracing innovation and fostering a culture of wellness and inclusivity, we build resilient teams that not only serve with excellence but also inspire others to lead with integrity and purpose."

He comes to the island from his most recent role as Officer in Charge of the Lower Mainland District Integrated Teams (I-Teams), Chief Superintendent Singer was responsible for over 450 specialized officers and employees delivering integrated policing services to 33 communities, five municipal police organizations, and 13 RCMP detachments. These teams include the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, Integrated Emergency Response Team, Integrated Forensic Identification Section, Integrated Police Dog Services, and the Enhanced Integrated Collision and Reconstruction Analysts programs.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the outgoing District Commander, Chief Superintendent Shawna Baher, for her outstanding leadership and dedication to the BC RCMP Island District. Her hard work, vision and people-driven approach have shaped this district into the remarkable team it is today, fostering a strong foundation of trust, professionalism and teamwork. I am honoured to follow in her footsteps and I am committed in continuing the exceptional work she has championed in collaboration with the detachment commanders and their employees, in the service to our communities, adds C/Supt. Singer.

A recipient of numerous accolades, Chief Superintendent Singer was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, invested as a Member of the Order of Merit of Police Forces in 2018, and holds the RCMP Long Service Medal. He also proudly wears the RCMP third-generational pin, symbolizing his family's enduring legacy of service to Canada.

Chief Superintendent Singer holds two undergraduate degrees in Leadership as well as Management and is currently pursuing an Executive MBA from a prestigious Australian university, further strengthening his strategic business acumen.

Outside of work, Chief Superintendent Singer is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He values balancing professional demands with family life, volunteering as Chair of Cops for Cancer and teaching scuba diving to share his passion for the ocean with others.
