File # 2025-561
On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Mackenzie RCMP became aware of a SPOT SOS activation in a remote area near Mackenzie. The device was associated to a single engine plane flying from Williams Lake to Fort. St. John. All indications supported the likelihood of a plane crash.
Mackenzie RCMP, RCMP Air-3, JRCC, ECC and Mackenzie SAR attended scene and located crash site along with lone female occupant. The woman sustained injuries but they did not appear to be to be life-threatening.
The crash site was in remote area and poor weather conditions had limited JRCC’s capability to approach the site with larger air resources. RCMP Air-3 was able to locate the scene and land, deploying Police Dog Service member who located and extracted the pilot. RCMP Air-3 transported the pilot to JRCC resources outside the site who conducted a medical assessment and transported the pilot to hospital.
Transport Safety Board has conduct of the investigation to determine causal factors, however at this time there is no indication of any criminality.
