File # 25-3179

One person was taken into custody after an unfolding incident led to a large police response and shutdown of a Deep Cove neighborhood on the weekend.

On February 15th, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., North Vancouver RCMP responded to reports of a distraught man with a gun in a vehicle in the 4600 block of Eastridge Road in North Vancouver. Due to the mental state of the individual and potential for violence, the Integrated Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiators were called out to assist. The 4600 block of Eastridge Road was temporarily closed, and nearby residents were asked to stay inside.

During the unfolding event, multiple specialized police units and agencies assisted with the investigation.

Shortly before 5 p.m., the man was safely apprehended under provisions of the Mental Health Act. He was immediately transported to hospital for treatment.

This incident required a highly coordinated response due to the potential risk to public safety, said Constable Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP. The integrated Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiators are a highly trained group of individuals skilled in handling dynamic and evolving situations like this.

"Thanks to their expertise and the support of the specialized units, police were able to bring this situation to a peaceful conclusion, ensuring the safety of the individual involved and the community."
