Weekend tragedy claims one young life

Williams Lake

2024-03-25 11:23 PDT

File # 2024-2051

As spring arrives and we see more and more warmer days, we would like to remind everyone to be aware of the rapidly changing conditions of ice on our area lakes and ponds.

We were sadly reminded of how fast a fun activity can quickly turn into a tragedy. On Saturday, March 23, at 5:19 pm, the Williams Lake RCMP were called to Tyee Lake. It was reported that a UTV travelling on the lake had gone through the ice and sadly a young child had died. While the ice may look safe, as the mercury rises, the ice melts making it unsafe to be on.

Williams Lake RCMP are assisting BC Coroners Service who has conduct of the investigation. There are no further details available.
