A Kitimat business reported an incident in which they were scammed out of a sum of money on June 12th. It was reported that the business had received a call from someone stating they were from a utility company. It was stated that the business was required to make a payment immediately via a pre-paid credit card, or the utility would be shut off, rending the business inoperable. The business unfortunately provided the requested amount of money, before it was discovered to be a fraudulent call. The investigating Kitimat RCMP Officer provided information about using online accounts to track the utility bills. Please keep in mind that utility company’s do not call out and request gift certificates or pre-paid credit cards for payment. (2025-1997)
While conducting foot patrols in the Whitesail neighbourhood at 3:20 am on June 13th, two Kitimat RCMP officers observed an e-bike that had fled from the police earlier in the day. A traffic stop was conducted with the rider of the e-bike. The rider attempted to flee again, however was unsuccessful. The rider was arrested for flight from a police officer and an amount of cash and suspected drugs was seized. The rider faces charges of flight from a police officer and two counts of fail to comply with a release condition. The investigation into the possibility of drug trafficking is on going. (2025-2002)
During the evening of June 13th, Kitimat RCMP officers conduced a check stop along Dyke Road. Approximately 25 vehicles were checked with two drivers providing samples of their breath, and were found to be below the legal limit for alcohol in their system. A third driver however, provided two breath samples that resulted in a fail reading. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and their vehicle was impounded for 90 days. (2025-2011, 2025-2012)
A driver is facing a laundry list of charges after a traffic stop on June 14th at 8:25 pm. The investigating Kitimat RCMP officer was conducting patrols along Highway 37 when a vehicle was found to be travelling at 122 km/h in the 80 km/h speed zone. A traffic stop was conducted for the excessive speed. Once the driver was identified, it was found that the driver was driving while prohibited and two samples of breath were provided, both resulting in a fail reading on the approved roadside screening device. The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving while prohibited. The driver was released from custody after being served a violation ticket for excessive speed, a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and a future court date to answer to the charge of driving while prohibited (2025-2030)
On June 16th, 2025 the Kitimat RCMP received a check wellbeing call for a person seen on the 800 block of East Columbia Ave at 11:07 am. The concerned caller reported that a male appeared to have injuries and he may require assistance. The investigating officers patrolled the area and located the male. It was found the male was from out of town, but would not disclose how he received the injuries. Although the injuries appeared to be minor in nature, Emergency services were contacted and transported the male to a local hospital to be treated. Once at the hospital, investigators attempted to gain further information about the injuries, but no information was provided. (2025-2041)
The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a lost cellphone on June 17th. The phone, described as being a black Samsung note, was last seen on Friday evening, June 13th. The owner had visited a few businesses in the downtown area and may have accidently left the phone behind. This phone has some important information on it and the owner would really like to have it back. If you have located this item, please contact the Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-7111 and cite file number 2025-2056.
