Shortly before noon on January 12, first responders attended a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Cedar Street and 7th Avenue, where one vehicle had been flipped over onto its side. A black Hyundai Tucson had been attempting a left turn onto 7th Avenue when it was struck by a silver Nissan Versa proceeding through the intersection. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
On January 13, just after 6 am, a rollover collision occurred on Lougheed Highway east of McLean Street, near Silverdale. A 46-year-old man had been driving eastbound on Lougheed Highway when his Jeep struck the center divider and rolled over. Another driver stopped to check on the man, who was not injured.
On the afternoon of January 14, Mission RCMP attended Semath Road in Abbotsford (Mission RCMP’s detachment area includes the area around the Sumas First Nation on Sumas Mountain) for a report of someone shooting a gun into some bushes near a residence. A 41-year-old man was arrested for offences including careless use of a firearm, and a rifle was seized. No one was struck by any of the shots, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police were at a rural property on Shaw Street on the morning of January 14 for an unrelated matter, when they observed a black 1989 Freightliner logging truck on the property. The license plates showed that the truck was stolen in Chilliwack in November, and officers confirmed that the ignition had been damaged. The truck was towed from the property.
