Police arrest youth with concealed firearm in parking lot

Prince George

2025-04-15 09:44 PDT

File # 2025-10523

On Monday, April 14, 2025, just after 3:00 p.m., Prince George RCMP received a report of a 17-year-old youth in a parking lot on the 1400-block of Edmonton Street who was reportedly in possession of a firearm.

Multiple frontline police officers were dispatched to this investigation; given the suspect’s proximity to the hospital and the information that was known, police determined this report represented a high risk to public safety.

Police officers arrived at the location and had the suspect arrested without incident within minutes of the report being made.

We train for these types of scenarios as part of our initial instruction at the RCMP Training Academy, and also as part of our yearly qualifications. I am proud of the response our Frontline Police Officers had to this dynamic and high-risk situation, responding calmly and swiftly, and resolving the situation without increasing the risk to themselves, the public or the suspect, says Superintendent Darin Rappel, Officer in Charge of the Prince George RCMP.

The youth will remain in custody until he can attend court. This file remains under investigation.
