Intoxicated in public

A report was received of an intoxicated female causing a disturbance at a business located in the 100 block of Nechako Centre at approximately 10:30 pm on September 19th. The responding officer located the female and observed that she was in fact intoxicated. The female was arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in public and was transported to the Kitimat RCMP detachment cells. She was release without charge the following day. Fraud over $5000

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a fraud on September 20th. It was reported that a local resident had noticed that someone was able to access their email address and then accessed several of their accounts ordering items totalling over $5000. The victim was directed to also report the incident to the Canadian Anti-fraud centre and to monitor their accounts and the various credit bureaus for other suspicious activities. (2024-3486)

12-hour roadside driving suspension

While on routine patrols in the Kitimat area at 11:15 pm on September 22nd, a Kitimat RCMP police officer located a vehicle parked in the Minette Bay West parking lot. A check was conducted and while speaking to the driver, an investigation into impaired driving was started. It was found the driver had alcohol before having care and control of the vehicle. As a result, the driver received a 12-12 hour driving prohibition. (2024-3510)

Off road right

On September 23rd, the Kitimat RCMP responded to a report of a collision on Highway 37, near Humphrey Creek. A vehicle was found to have gone off road right into the ditch. The driver reported not to be injured, however was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind drivers, with the darker mornings and as the weather is beginning to change, please stay vigilante while driving, watching for obstructions and fast changing road conditions. 90-day IRP

While conducting patrols in the downtown Kitimat area on September 24th at 6:00 pm, a Kitimat RCMP officer was advised of a person getting into a vehicle that appeared to be intoxicated. A description of the vehicle was provided, allowing the officer to locate it quickly. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was investigated for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. Two samples of breath were provided into a roadside screening device resulting in a Fail reading. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2024-3538)

Coffee with a cop / fraud workshop

On October 2nd at 10:00 am, officers from the Kitimat RCMP will be at the Kitimat McDonalds restaurant, available to speak to local residents. Please come down to McDonalds, grab a coffee and chat with us.

At 1:00 pm, officers will also be attending the Kitimat 50+ society centre for a fraud workshop. The members of the 50+ society in attendance will hear from guest speakers and will learn to avoid frauds, scams and the phishing process

Winter tire reminder

With winter right around the corner, the Kitimat RCMP is reminding motorists that effective October 1st, you must have winter tires on your vehicle if you are planning to drive on Highway 37 to Terrace. In B.C., appropriate winter tires are defined as those with either the M+S (mud and snow) or mountain/snowflake symbol, in good condition with a minimum tread depth of 3.5 millimetres. Drivers without the proper winter tires in good condition driving on designated B.C. highways can receive a fine of $121.

If you have any information of crimes that have occurred in the Kitimat area, and would like to report it to the police, you can report through Northern BC Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You will stay anonymous and if your tip leads to an arrest, you may receive a reward of up to $2000.
