Officers with the Smithers RCMP detachment have completed training and will begin wearing body-worn cameras (BWCs) while on duty in the community.

Body-worn video (BWV) provides increased transparency, while offering a first-person view of what a police officer encounters—often in highly tense situations.
The objectives of the body-worn camera project are to:
Smithers officers have completed the training and will now follow RCMP policy in activating cameras during use-of-force incidents, arrests, victim/witness interviews, or other interactions where recording is permitted.
Our members are committed to building and maintaining trust with our community, said Sgt. Ryan Law, Acting Detachment Commander for Smithers RCMP. We welcome the use of body-worn cameras because we want the public to see how we handle the often complex and challenging situations we face every day.
