Nanaimo RCMP is committed to improving interactions with neurodivergent/autistic individuals.

The Nanaimo RCMP is proud to support the "Decal Project," an initiative of the British Columbia Association of Chiefs of Police (BCACP) and the British Columbia Law Enforcement Division Network (BCLEDN) aimed at fostering better relationships between police and neurodivergent/ autistic individuals.

The decals, which can be displayed on someone's home or vehicle, signal to police to engage with the individual(s) in a way that will be both reassuring and productive, said Cst Wade of the Nanaimo RCMP Vulnerable Persons Unit. As first responders, we become extremely task-focused. The decal will be an excellent visual cue for our members to pause, reflect on our training, and evaluate how best to communicate with the individual.

Decals for neurodivergent/autistic individuals or family members are available at the Nanaimo detachment.
